Our practice offers
two orthopaedic surgeons, Arthur W. Wardell, M.D. and David H.
Hoang, D.O.
Arthur W. Wardell was born in 1951 in New York. He graduated from Cornell
University in 1971 with an A.B. degree, majoring in
mathematics. He studied at Cornell University Medical College
from 1971 to 1975, receiving an M.D. degree in 1975. From 1975
to 1977 he trained as an intern and resident in the Department of
General Surgery at the University of Michigan. From 1977 to
1979 he served as a resident in the Department of Orthopaedic
Surgery at the University of Rochester. In his last year there
he was appointed Chief Resident of Orthopaedic Surgery. When
that year ended in July of 1980 he came to Tidewater and worked at
Portsmouth Orthopaedic Associates until July of 2004. Between
1996 and 2003 he acted as Chief Executive Officer of this group.
He has been Chairman of the Surgical Authorities and has been the
President of the medical staff at Portsmouth General Hospital.
He was the founding director of the Rehabilitation Unit of
Portsmouth General Hospital, the first accredited acute
rehabilitation facility in the region. This unit continues
today as the Rehabilitation Unit of Maryview Medical Center.
He has served as Director of the Maryview Sports Medicine Clinic and
has been involved with the ODU Sports Injury Clinic. He has
taught in the ODU Master Degree Program for Athletic Trainers, in
the EVMS Master Degree program for Physicians Assistants and he has
taught courses in clinical orthopaedic anatomy to our medical
students at EVMS.
Since 1980 he has been involved in the high school sports
programs, and for many years was the Team Physician to Western
Branch High School.
His chief interests are sports medicine, adult reconstructive
surgery and musculoskeletal pain management. He lives in
Western Branch with Janet, his wife of 34 years. He has three
grown daughters and two grandchildren so far.
Dr. David Hoang is a
Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon with fellowship training in
sports medicine and arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery. Growing
up in San Diego, Dr. Hoang became interested in orthopaedics while
playing high school football and wrestling. After high school, Dr.
Hoang spent eight years in the United States Naval Reserve where he
served on active duty during the Persian Gulf War.
Dr. Hoang (pronounced
"Wong") completed his
undergraduate study at the University of California, San Diego in
1993 with a B.S. in Biochemistry & Cell Biology. He graduated from
Ohio University, College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1997. Dr. Hoang
completed his internship at Meridia South Pointe Hospital in
Cleveland, Ohio and orthopaedic surgery residency at Philadelphia
College of Osteopathic Medicine. He then completed an orthopaedic
sports medicine fellowship at OASIS Sports Medical Group in San
Diego, California. He concentrated on the treatment of orthopaedic
sports injuries and served as team physician to local high schools,
colleges and professional teams. During the course of his training,
Dr. Hoang has been affiliated with the San Diego Chargers,
Philadelphia 76ers, San Diego Spirit and San Diego Riptides. Dr.
Hoang specializes in sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery and
ligament reconstruction. His practice also includes total joint
replacement, fracture care and general orthopaedics.
Dr. Hoang resides in
Suffolk with his wife and their two sons. In his spare time he
enjoys spending time with his family, golf and biking.

Russell Mosher, P.T. started in the medical field after
graduating in 1987, obtaining an A.A.S. with honors in the field of
Radiation Therapy/Cancer Therapy. He was a cancer therapist
from 1987 to 1996 working primarily in the Southern Florida
area. In 1996, while maintaining licenses for Florida, New
York, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Louisiana and working for a
national per diem temporary agency, he graduated in 1998 with a BS
in physical kinesiology and 2000 with a BS in Physical
Therapy. For both degrees he was in the top of his
class. While completing his studies at "The State
University @ Buffalo", Russell was in the honors study program
in the biomechanics research department. His accolades include
induction into both Phi Theta Kappa (honorary for AAS studies) and
the international honorary of the Golden Key Society. He has
gained recognition in both "Who's Who in the East"
1999-2000, as well as "Who's Who in Medicine" in 2001,
2003, and 2004. He has worked in Virginia since 2000, most
recently in the Portsmouth area. His hobbies include martial
arts, photography, biking and he enjoys traveling overseas as
well. Russell is currently involved in graduate studies to
become a clinical Doctor in physical therapy under Dr. Stanley Paris
at the University of St. Augustine.
Craig D. Allen, P.T., A.T., Cert. M.D.T., is a 1988 honors
graduate from Old Dominion University. Immediately following
graduation Craig served as a Physical Therapist in the United States
Army Specialist Corp. He spent 2 years at the World Famous
Burn Unit in San Antonio, Texas, and 2 years in Fort Campbell,
Kentucky with the 101st Air Assault. During his duty in Kentucky,
Craig obtained his certifications in Athletic Training and Strength
and Conditioning. He worked with various sport teams at Austin
Peay State University and with the American Volleyball
Professionals. He was Honorably Discharged as a Captain in
1993 and moved to Chesapeake where he resides today. While in
the Army, Craig received several awards to include The Meritorious
Service Award and Combat Casualty Care Leadership Award. In
1997 Craig became one of six Physical Therapists to pass the
McKenzie Specialization Certification exam for the spine.
Craig has worked side by side with Dr. Wardell for the past 10
years. Together, they have brought the Decompression Traction
Therapy to the Hampton Roads area.
Craig has lectured professionally around the United States on
"Rehabilitation of the Spine" and has written articles for
Synergy Therapeutic Services in the late 1990's. He is
currently married and has 3 children. Hobbies include
woodworking and designing and building decks.

Our practice manages patients who have acute injuries, which often
require urgent attention. We always try to be on time and accommodating.

of our medical staff, a physician extender, or use the time to compose
